Beam - Beam Interaction : Luminosity , Tails

چکیده

Observations of the beam-beam interaction at SPEAR, CESR, PETRA and PEP are discussed. They are sufficiently similar that a simple prescription can be formulated to describe the behavior of the luminosity as a function of current including the peak values. With this prescription the interpretation of various methods of increasing the luminosity, such as the reduction of the vertical betatron function, the increase of the horizontal beam size, and “mini-” and “micre” beta projects, is straight-forward. Predictions for future storage rings can also be made. Finally, some observations of the consequences of re ducing the vertical betatron function to near the value of the bunch length are discussed.

Luminosity Polarization Correlation in the SLC*

In this paper we discuss the correlation between low luminosity and low polarization for off-energy particles in the Stanford Linear Collider (SLC). In the arcs of the SLC the spin of the polarized electrons has a net horizontal prece~ sion of about 25 turns. For example, a particle off energy by 1Yo deviates by 0.25 spin turns or a 90° rotation from the core. It reduces the average polarizatio...

The Classical Beam - Beam Interaction for the Muon Collider : a First Look ∗

In this note we carry out some basic beam-beam studies for the muon collider in the incoherent classical approximation, taking into account the instability of the muon. This collider has a beam-beam parameter value typical of an e+e− collider, and a damping time that is more typical of a hadron collider. We conclude that these characteristics can coexist thanks to the short cycle time forced by...

Nlc Luminosity as a Function of Beam Parameters †

Realistic calculation of NLC luminosity has been performed using particle tracking in DI-MAD and beam-beam simulations in GUINEA-PIG code for various values of beam emit-tance, energy and beta functions at the Interaction Point (IP). Results of the simulations are compared with analytic luminosity calculations. The optimum range of IP beta functions for high luminosity was identified. Abstract ...

I Plasma Suppression of Beam - Beam in Circular ColUders

A possibility to suppress beam-beam interaction in a circular collider by means of introducing a plasma at the interaction point of the colliding beams is considered. It is shown that for TeV proton and muon colliders, the overdense plasma can easily suppress the beam-beam tune-shift parameter several times without degrading the beam lifetimes. In this paper we study a possibility to overcome a...

Concept of luminosity

Abstract The performance of particle colliders is usually quantified by the beam energy and the luminosity. We derive the expressions for the luminosity in case of bunched beams in terms of the beam parameters and the geometry. The implications of additional features such as crossing angle, offsets and hourglass effect on the luminosity are calculated. Important operational aspects like integra...
